Larner, Lipp Edged in Qualifying Draw at ITA All-American

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- Northwestern's singles entrants were both edged in their respective opening matches of the qualifying singles draw at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship on Tuesday.
Maddie Lipp, who is No. 30 in the ITA Preseason Rankings, was clipped by Virginia Tech's Caroline Daxhelet in three sets, falling 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. The loss dropped Lipp into the qualifying singles backdraw where she was eliminated in another three-set match as she was edged by Rice's Wendy Zhang 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Erin Larner, who is ranked No. 61, also was knocked out of the qualifying draw with a 6-2, 7-6 (6) loss to Syracuse's Gabriela Knutson. Due to injury, Larner elected not to participate in the the backdraw.
Lipp is slated to team with Alex Chatt in the main draw of the doubles tournament starting Thursday.
