Nandi Mehta Earns Second CoSIDA Academic All-District Honor

EVANSTON, Ill. – Fifth-year senior and captain Nandi Mehta was named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District Five Women's Soccer First Team, the organization announced on Thursday.
This marks the second time Mehta has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Five Team.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
The athletes selected to each team are recognized as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance in athletics and academics. The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
In order to be selected for a CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.3, or higher, and be a starter or key reserve.
Mehta, who graduated last year with an economics and international studies double major, is a three-time captain for the Wildcats. After finishing her undergraduate degree, Mehta returned for a fifth-year of eligibility in 2016. So far this season, the Lexington, Mass., native has started in all 18 games for Chicago's Big Ten Team and has registered a goal and two assists for the 'Cats.
Mehta captained a 2016 squad that won the program's first-ever Big Ten Championship as well as a 2015 team that saw its first NCAA Tournament appearance in nearly 20 years.
In her junior year, Mehta was chosen as one of five junior Northwestern student-athlete winners of the NU For Life Irving Kabiller Memorial Award for Excellence in Character, Commitment, and Community. As a winner, she received a $5,000 grant for her own professional development and she used it to attend the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in February and, over the summer, to work with a faculty member at the University of Geneva in Switzerland on reforming medical policy.
Mehta and the Wildcats kick off post-season play when they host Nebraska on Sunday, Oct. 30, in the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tournament.
