Lipp Advances to Singles Quarterfinal at ITA Midwest Regional

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's women's tennis team wrapped up competition at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Indiana, while Maddie Lipp advanced along to the quarterfinal round of the singles main draw at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in East Lansing, Michigan, on Sunday.
Lipp was an easy winner over Ines Vias of Illinois, 6-0, 6-1, in the round of 16. The No. 2 seed in the draw, Lipp will face Michigan freshman Chiara Lommer in Monday's quarterfinal round.
NU advanced two doubles teams to Sunday's quarterfinal round at the tournament, but both duos were defeated. The top-seeded team of Lipp and Alex Chatt was upset by Michigan's Kate Fahey and Alex Najarian, 8-4.
On the other side of the draw, Erin Larner and Lee Or – a No. 5-8 seed in the draw – also were eliminated by a duo from Michigan as the second-seeded team of Brienne Minor and Mira Ruder-Hook posted an 8-5 win.
Meanwhile, in Bloomington, the Wildcats participated in three singles matches. Freshman Nina Van Oost defeated Indiana's Alicia Robinson 6-0, 6-2, while Rheeya Doshi topped Purdue's Rafaella Baquerizo 6-2, 6-3. Jillian Rooney narrowly lost to Purdue's Alex Sabe 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (8).
