'Cats Wrap up Day One at ITA Midwest Regional, Hoosier Classic

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern's contingent has completed its first day of action at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in East Lansing, Michigan, as well as the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Indiana.
The Wildcats two doubles teams were both victorious in their opening match in East Lansing. NU's eighth-ranked team of Alex Chatt and Maddie Lipp is the top-seeded team in the draw. The duo received an opening round bye before defeating Illinois State's Marcia Tere-Apisah and Jelena Karla Vujicic 8-3 in the round of 32. Chatt and Lipp will take on Eastern Michigan's team of Andrea Martinovska and Marie Mayerova Saturday with a berth in the quarterfinal round on the line.
On the other half of the draw, Erin Larner and Lee Or are a 5-8 seed. The team received an opening round bye before defeating Wisconsin's Christina Zordani and Maria Avgerinos 8-1. The Wildcats' team will face Ohio State's Ferny Angeles Paz and Olivia Sneed in the round of 16 Saturday.
Meanwhile at the Hoosier Classic, the Wildcats won two of their three singles matches while splitting their doubles matches. In singles, Rheeya Doshi was dominant in singles action, defeating Notre Dame's Jane Fennelly 6-0, 6-0. On the other half of the draw, Jillian Rooney also was a straight-sets winner, taking down Kim Kermet of Tennessee 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles, the team of Rooney and Brooke Rischbieth outlasted the Southern Illinois team of Polina Dozortseva and Vitoria Beirao, 8-6.
