Northwestern Looks to Continue Winning Streak at Michigan State

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern heads back into Big Ten Conference play this weekend when it travels to take on No. 20 Michigan State this Saturday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. CT in East Lansing.
LAST TIME OUT
Northwestern (4-9-1, 2-3-1 B1G) enters the contest fresh off a 2-1 (OT) victory over No. 4 Notre Dame at Toyota Park.
Shannon Seymour opened the scoring in the first half against the Fighting Irish with his first career goal before the Irish equalized shortly after. The scoreless second half was dominated by a stellar Northwestern defense that held Notre Dame to a single shot on target. Senior Mike Roberge scored four minutes into the extra period to take down Notre Dame.
Riley Kelliher and Elo Ozumba tallied assists in the effort.
The win was the Wildcats' second consecutive overtime triumph. Freshman Mattias Tomasino scored the golden goal to beat Rutgers 2-1 (OT) last Friday (Oct. 14).
POINTS LEADERS
Brandon Medina and Mike Roberge lead the team with seven points on the season. Medina has found the net on three occasions and tallied an assist, while Roberge has scored two game-winning goals to add to his three assists.
Roberge has tallied a point in Northwestern's last two contests.
THE OPPONENT
The Spartans enter Saturday's tilt with a 10-3-1 record overall and a 3-2-1 mark in Big Ten matches. MSU topped Yale, 2-0, in its last outing (Oct. 19) to remain unbeaten (7-0-1) at home in 2016.
Sophomore Ryan Sierakowski leads the team with seven goals in their 14 matches so far. He also has two assists for a total of 16 points on the season.
Jimmy Hague has been a regular in goal for Michigan State, tallying a 0.70 goals against average in 14 appearances.
RECENT SERIES
Northwestern owns a 2-1-2 record over Michigan State in the last five meetings. All five meetings have been decided by a goal or less and four of the five have gone to overtime.
