Wildcats Team Up to Claim Top 5 Finish in Iowa

IOWA CITY, Ia. -- The Wildcats earned a fifth place finish this weekend at the NCAA Midwest Regional Preview, with five runners in the Top 25. This was the first time this season that Northwestern has competed at the championship 6K distance, earning a score of 87 following just behind Northern Illinois with a score of 70 and ahead of Nebraska-Omaha with 167.

Sophomore Isabel Seidel led the way, crossing the finish line with a time of 21:58.8 to earn a spot in 13th place followed closely by her teammates. Freshman Kelly O'Brien was next to finish with a time of 22:00.5, placing 14th. Juniors Sara Coffey and Haley Albers finished 18th and 19th running times of 22:19.8 and 22:20.3, respectively.
Senior Jena Pianin made it to the 23rd spot with a time of 22:25.1. Junior Brooke Pigneri came in 33rd at a time of 22:49.3, closely followed by teammate Senior Andrea Ostenso in 34th with a time of 22:50.7, rounding out the scoring seven for the Ashton Course.
The next event for the Wildcats is the NCAA Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center, taking place in Terre Haute, Ind. on Oct. 15th at 11a.m.
