TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Earning her place in the race's Top-50, Freshman Aubrey Roberts finished the 6K LaVern Gibson Championship Course in 42nd place with a time of 20:53.9, more than a minute and a half faster than her last time at a competition of this distance. Eight out of forty-two of the teams in attendance were nationally ranked in the Top-25, and the team positioned themselves 38th amongst the strong competition.

2016 Pre-National Invitational -- FINAL RESULTS

Even under the weather, Aubrey Roberts found the steam to keep going. "I was a little under the weather going into the race, but I knew I had put in a lot of quality training in the past few weeks which I hoped would pay off. Overall, the race went fairly well through the 5K. I ended up fading in the last 1K, but that is something I can work on along with getting healthier in the next few weeks before Big Tens. It was a good race, but it will be exciting to see what is in store for the future," Roberts said.

Coming in behind Roberts, Freshman Sarah Nicholson crossed the finish line with a time of 21:40.6, almost a minute faster than her previous 6K appearance in Minneapolis.

Next to finish was Junior Haley Albers with a time of 22:58.3. Rounding things up for the scoring five Wildcats were Senior Andrea Ostenso, finishing at 23:07.6, and Junior Brooke Pigneri with 23:37.1.

Northwestern broke a tie with Coastal Carolina University, earning a team score of 945 putting them just ahead of CCU and just below Iowa with a score of 860.

"Today was a tough race. The end result was not what we had expected or wanted. We have two weeks to adjust, assess and move forward toward B1G Championships," said head coach 'A Havahla Haynes.

Be sure to catch the Wildcats at their next appearance on October 21st at 4pm CST, where they'll be competing at the University of Illinois Arboretum for the Illini Open. The last time Northwestern faced the Fighting Illini on September 2nd, the 'Cats came home with a first place finish for this course.
