Three Wildcats Recognized in First 2016 National Poll

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its first rankings for the 2016 season on Tuesday, and three Wildcats were recognized in singles, while the team starts the year just outside the top-25.
The Northwestern men will enter their first match ranked No. 26 in the country, up one spot from their 2015 year-end mark. The Wildcats have posted three straight 20-win seasons, been to four consecutive NCAA tournaments and return five of six starters from a year ago.
Chicago's Big Ten Team is well represented individually and is led by junior Konrad Zieba, who begins the year No. 16. Zieba had a tremendous fall season, posting a 7-2 record with five wins over ranked opponents.
2015 NCAA qualifier Sam Shropshire comes in at No. 50 and classmate Strong Kirchheimer is No. 55.
The doubles tandem of Kirchheimer and Fedor Baev opens the season at No. 52.
Northwestern will play 15 matches this season against ranked teams, including 12 against top-50 foes and six against opponents in the top-25.
The 2016 season gets underway with a doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 17. Northwestern travels to Louisville, Ky. for a match with the 36th-ranked Cardinals at 9:30 a.m. before returning to Evanston for a 6:30 p.m. nightcap against Chicago State at the Combe Tennis Center.
