Wildcats Edged by Minnesota and Purdue in Triple Dual

EVANSTON, Ill. — The Wildcats fell to both Minnesota and Purdue in a two-day Big Ten triple dual, which concluded on Saturday. Minnesota defeated Northwestern 245-108, and Purdue topped the 'Cats 244-109.

Lacey Locke (Carmel, Ind.) picked up her second first place in a backstroke event in as many days, turning in a time of 1:59.23 to lead the competition in the 200 back.

In the 400 medley relay, Northwestern's 'A' team notched a third-place finish with a time of 3:45.86. Annika Winsnes' (Singapore/United World College) anchor leg was a speedy 50.24 in the race.

In the diving competition, Olivia Rosendahl (Los Angeles, Calif./Immaculate Heart) returned and scored a third-place 292.70 from the 1-meter springboard.

The Wildcats had another third-place performance in the 200 free relay, finishing in 1:33.82. 

Winsnes also collected points in the 100 free, swimming a fourth-place time of 51.10. Julia Pratt (Vincennes, Ind./Vincennes Rivet), Katherine Senseman (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South Vigo) and Megan Purdy (Boulder City, Nev./Boulder City) all earned season-bests in the race.

Ellen Stello (Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood) took home a fourth-place finish in the 400 IM, swimming the event in 4:25.77. Behind her, Lauren Abruzzo (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver) set a season-best, finishing in 4:27.25. Swimming in the first heat as an exhibition entry, Emily Launer (DeKalb, Ill./Rosary) also notched a season-best (4:26.14).

In the 100 fly, Alex Grimes (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos) led the pack of 'Cats with a fourth-place time of 56.59. Maddy Sims (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) finished right on her heels with a fifth-place time of 56.60 and Launer set a season-best mark of 57.31.

This was the last regular season action for the #B1GCats in the 2015-16 campaign, and Northwestern concluded with an 8-4 dual record. The Big Ten Championships take place from Feb. 17-21 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the NCAA Championships follow that from March 17-19 in Atlanta, Georgia.
