EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern returns home to take on No. 35 Notre Dame Friday night. The 21st-ranked Wildcats and the Fighting Irish meet at 6 p.m. in the Combe Tennis Center.
The Wildcats then turn around and head to Durham, N.C. for a Sunday morning match against No. 24 Duke at 10 a.m. CT.
Promotions
Friday's match against Notre Dame is Club Night, and the club with the most members in attendance will win free court time at the Combe Tennis Center. Free pizza will also be served during the match.
Last Time Out
Chicago's Big Ten Team is coming off a trip to ITA Kickoff Weekend at Illinois, where it went 1-1 with a first round win over then-No. 24 Tulsa and a loss in the finals to the seventh-ranked and host Illini.
The Wildcats
Northwestern players have combined for a 9-4 mark in singles over the course of four matches, and the Wildcats are led by No. 16 Konrad Zieba (1-1), No. 50 Sam Shropshire (1-1) and No. 55 Strong Kirchheimer (2-0). Freshman Ben Vandixhorn is also 2-0 playing at No. 6.
Kirchheimer and Fedor Baev make up the nation's 52nd-ranked doubles team, and the duo has jumped out to a 3-1 mark in 2016 at the No. 1 spot. Northwestern has won the doubles point in all three of its wins so far this season.
History
Notre Dame leads 43-38. The Irish won a close 4-3 match last season in South Bend. Northwestern last beat Notre Dame in 2013.
Duke leads the all-time series 7-1. The Blue Devils won last season's match in Evanston, 5-2.
Scouting Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish boast one ranked singles player in No. 37 Quentin Monaghan. The senior is 2-1 and will likely match up against Zieba at No. 1. Monaghan partners with Alex Lawon in doubles, and that tandem is ranked sixth in the nation with a 10-2 overall mark.
Notre Dame was also at ITA Kickoff Weekend in Urbana, Ill. but lost in the first round to eventual champion Illinois. The Irish also lost 4-3 to Tulsa in the consolation.
Scouting Duke
Duke enters Sunday's match with two ranked singles players, including Nicolas Alvarez, who is 12th and plays at the No. 1 spot. T.J. Pura is 102nd and plays at No. 2.
The Blue Devils have lost two matches in a row to Kentucky and San Diego, both at home. They play Illinois next.
Next
Friday will be the last opportunity for fans to see Chicago's Big Ten Team in action until Saturday, Feb. 13, when Kentucky comes to Evanston for a 1 p.m. match.
