Steiner Scores Brace in 2-0 Win Over Maryland

BRIDGEVIEW, ILL. - Junior Addie Steiner struck twice against the Terrapins as Northwestern defeated Maryland 2-0 on Thursday night at Toyota Park to remain unbeaten at home.
The #B1GCats' defense stepped up once again, as Northwestern chalked up its seventh shutout of the season behind another clean sheet from sophomore goalkeeper Laura Clem. Clem registered three saves in NU's effort.
"I thought the team came out with great energy again and I thought we got off to a fantastic start," said head coach Michael Moynihan. "We held the ball very well and created a lot of great chances."
The Wildcats attacked early and often, registering three straight shots to open the match. Before the Terps could put up a shot of their own, Niki Sebo sent a pass straight through the UMD's backline to Steiner. The junior forward went one-on-one with Maryland keeper Rachelle Beanlands and popped the ball right over her head for the goal.
Sophomore Alex Anthony produced Maryland's best chance of the half. The sophomore hit the crossbar in the 39th minute, but could not find the equalizer. Northwestern entered the break with a 1-0 advantage.
It felt like déjà vu for Chicago's Big Ten Team as Sebo and Steiner teamed up once again for the insurance goal in the 65th minute. Steiner received a pass from Sebo who took a touch inside the area before driving a powerful shot to the lower far post.
Steiner, Sebo and the rest of the Wildcats return to Toyota Park on Sunday, Sept. 27, to face Rutgers. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. The men's soccer team will follow suit with a 3 p.m. match against Indiana. A shuttle will be available for Northwestern students to attend both games.
