CHICAGO, Ill. – In a matchup of Wildcats Friday evening, Northwestern swept New Hampshire to improve to 2-0 in the young 2015 season. Chicago's Big Ten Team went with a balanced attack in the nightcap, with four players recording five or more kills, led by Symone Abbott with 10.
Moments that Mattered
Northwestern trailed 9-5 in the second set but a kill by Taylor Tashima snapped a 4-1 New Hampshire run and spurned Northwestern to a 20-5 run of its own to win the set 25-14 and take control of the match.
For the second straight match, the 'Cats biggest deficit was only four. Northwestern lost the first point in all three sets but was quick to recover and won each game by double digit points.
Holding onto a 9-7 lead in the first set, Northwestern went on a 7-0 run fueled by kills from Gabrielle Hazen, Sofia Lavin and the serving of Kayla Morin to blow the set open.
Notable
Northwestern last opened a season with consecutive shutouts in 2011 when the Wildcats won each of their first five matches by 3-0 decisions.
Chicago's Big Ten Team has won its first two matches in four of the last five seasons. Northwestern has finished with a winning record each time.
