Northwestern hosts Stanford in season-opening game on Sept. 5
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern, in conjunction with the Big Ten Conference and its television partners, has announced kickoff times and television designations for the first two games of the 2015 college football season.
For the second consecutive year, the Wildcats will host a Pac-12 opponent in the season opener when the Stanford Cardinal arrive in Evanston on Saturday, Sept. 5. The game, which will be the seventh meeting all-time between the two programs, will kickoff at 11 a.m. CDT and be televised live on ESPN.
The last time that Northwestern and Stanford met on the gridiron was on Sept. 10, 1994 at Dyche Stadium, which has since become Ryan Field. The teams combined to score 82 points on 155 offensive plays for 862 total yards in front of a national audience on ESPN in a game that ended in a 41-41 tie. That marks the last draw in Northwestern football history. Former Wildcat Dennis Lundy scored three rushing touchdowns and added 130 yards on the ground to lead the NU attack that day.
Northwestern owns the largest margin of victory in the series when it blanked the Cardinal, 28-0, at home under head coach Ara Parseghian on October 4, 1958. Stanford currently leads the all-time series, 3-1-2.
Week two for the 'Cats features a visit from the Eastern Illinois Panthers on Saturday, Sept. 12. That contest is scheduled to kickoff at 3 p.m. CDT and it will be televised on ESPNews.
Northwestern and EIU will be meeting for only the second time during the 2015 season. The Wildcats doubled up their guests in the first meeting at Ryan Field on September 10, 2011, 42-21. Chicago's Big Ten Team was lifted to victory that day thanks in large part to 320 rushing yards on 67 carries.
With Friday's announcement, the Wildcats now know six of their 12 game times for the 2015 campaign, including all four nonconference affairs. That list can be found below (home games in bold):
All remaining times and television designations for the 2015 season will be made on a 12- or six-day pick by the Big Ten Conference's television partners.
Season tickets to enjoy Northwestern's seven-game slate at Ryan Field are on sale now. In addition to Stanford (Sept. 5) and Eastern Illinois (Sept. 12), the Wildcats will host Ball State (Sept. 26) in a nonconference contest before welcoming Minnesota (Oct. 3), Iowa (Oct. 17), Penn State (Nov. 7) and Purdue (Nov. 14) in Big Ten action.
