Julia Kuhn Named Capital One Academic All-District

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Julia Kuhn (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) has been named a Capital One Academic All-District V selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Kuhn is a human communication sciences major with a French minor who also is enrolled in the Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) Certificate program. She already is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, a two-time Academic All-Big Ten award winner and an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete. Her award is the 17th Capital One Academic All-District honor in Northwestern's program history.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better and be in at least their second academic year at their institution. Kuhn now is eligible for consideration on the Academic All-America ballot.
Kuhn is closing her Northwestern career with a flourish, putting together by far her best season in Purple. She enters this weekend's Big Ten Tournament batting .336 with a .588 slugging percentage including 11 doubles and five home runs, driving in 34 in the process. Her season totals for hits, doubles, home runs and RBIs all have more than doubled her previous career totals entering 2015.
In NU's season-finale series at Iowa last week, Kuhn hit for the series cycle in her first five at-bats across the first two games. She hit a solo home run in the opener to account for all of the scoring in a 1-0 Wildcats' win before finishing 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs, a double and the first triple of her career in game two. She recorded another triple in the third game, as well.
No. 4 seed Northwestern opens the 2015 Big Ten Tournament at 11 a.m. CT/noon ET tomorrow, Friday, May 8, against No. 12 seed Purdue in Columbus, Ohio.
