EVANSTON, Ill. -- In its Big Ten home opener, No. 21 Northwestern achieved its fourth straight team victory with a commanding 7-0 performance over visiting Purdue. The Wildcats move to 10-5 this spring and 2-1 in conference competition.

NU recorded the first point with two quick doubles wins. Alp Horoz and Mihir Kumar captured their eighth straight victory with a fitting 8-0 shut-out at No. 3. On the court above them, Sam Shropshire and Alex Pasareanu topped their Boilermaker opponents 8-2.

Fedor Baev extended the lead at No. 5 in singles, beating Renan Hanayama 6-2, 6-0. No. 116 Strong Kirchheimer finished soon after with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Ricky Medinilla at No. 2, pushing the Wildcat advantage to three.

At the top court, No. 93 Shropshire achieved the decisive fourth point in defeating Diego Acosta 6-3, 6-1.

Play finished out in the remaining contests. Kumar bested Arthur Dobradin 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4, and Horoz worked through a second-set tiebreaker to prevail 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 6 over Lucas Dages.

The afternoon concluded at No. 3, where Logan Staggs fended off Mateus Silva's late rally to win 6-2, 7-5.

In conjunction with the team's winning streak, Shropshire, Kirchheimer, and Baev allnotched their fourth straight singles wins.

The `Cats complete the second half of their double-header tonight at 6:30 p.m. against Western Illinois.
