'Cats Open Home-Heavy Stretch vs. Spartans Tuesday

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern opens a stretch of four home games over a five-game span when it faces Michigan State at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The Wildcats seeking a split of its season series with the Spartans after Michigan State escaped with an 84-77 overtime win in East Lansing Jan. 11. Bryant McIntosh led the Wildcats with 18 points while Tre Demps added 17.
Six of the last nine meetings between the schools have been decided by 10 or fewer points.
Northwestern held No. 5/4 Wisconsin to its second-lowest field goal percentage of the season (.389) but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats fell 65-50 Saturday afternoon at Kohl Center. Alex Olah led NU with 15 points while Bryant McIntosh added 13. Olah averaged 15.5 points per game in Northwestern's two road games at Nebraska and Wisconsin last week.
Olah had two blocked shots on Saturday against the Badgers, raising his career total to 125 which is good for fourth place in school history. John Shurna is NU's all-time leader with 136 career blocks.
Scouting Michigan State
The Spartans came up just short at home against Illinois on Saturday, falling 59-54. Denzel Valentine led Michigan State with 16 points and 7 rebounds.
Valentine paces MSU with an average of 14.4 points per game while Travis Trice contributes 13.4 points per contest. Branden Dawson's average of 9.9 rebounds per game ranks first in the Big Ten. Michigan State leads the league with a .386 opponents' field goal percentage.
Tom Izzo has a 483-195 record in 20 seasons as the head coach at Michigan State.
