LINCOLN, Neb. -- A six-minute second-half scoring drought proved to be the difference for Northwestern as the Wildcats dropped a 76-60 decision to Nebraska Tuesday evening at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Alex Olah paced the Wildcats with 16 points while Terran Petteway scored a game-high 28 for the Cornhuskers.
Scottie Lindsey gave the Wildcats some scoring pop to start the game as he nailed a pair of 3-pointers prior to the first media timeout.
Meanwhile, Petteway was on target from behind the arch as well, hitting each of his first four triple tries with the fourth giving the hosts a 21-13 lead at the 11:42 mark.
Olah, who scored 20 points in last year's contest in Lincoln, scored 9 straight points for Northwestern as the 'Cats got back to within 23-22. NU would eventually take a 28-26 lead when JerShon Cobb knocked down a corner 3 with six minutes to go in the opening stanza.
Nebraska went back up by four, but Olah's layup just prior to the halftime buzzer gave him 13 points and got the 'Cats within 35-33 at the intermission. Northwestern shot a solid 52.4 percent from the field (11-21) over the opening 20 minutes of play, but the Cornhuskers were even better at 59.1 percent (13-22).
The Wildcats held a 41-40 lead early in the second half when Nebraska went on a decisive run to take charge. Over a span of 6:19, the hosts scored 17 straight points to go in front 57-41.
Northwestern was unable to overcome the drought as it was unable to get closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Lindsey and Law joined Olah in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively. The Cornhuskers shot 62.8 percent from the field in the contest, a high for a Northwestern opponent this season.
Northwestern returns to action at 4:30 p.m. Saturday when it takes on No. 5/4 Wisconsin in Madison.
