Wildcats and Hawkeyes Tussle at Welsh-Ryan Sunday

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern and Iowa square off for the first time this season at 2 p.m Sunday at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The squads will wrap up the regular season against one another in Iowa City on March 7.

Northwestern won the last meeting between the schools. The 11th-seeded Wildcats upset the sixth-seeded Hawkeyes 67-62 in the opening round of the 2014 Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis behind a 20-point effort from Tre Demps.
Since the 2008-09 season, Northwestern and Iowa have split their last 14 meetings. Both teams have had five-game winning streaks during that span. The Hawkeyes hold a slim 13-12 edge over the last 25 matchups going back to the 2001-02 campaign.
The Wildcats shot 55 percent from the field in the second half, but a poor-shooting first half was too much to overcome as Northwestern fell to Michigan State 68-44 Tuesday at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Demps led all scorers with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-12 field goal shooting. Freshman Vic Law contributed 9 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Demps leads the Wildcats with an average of 12.0 points per game by Bryant McIntosh is close behind at 11.9 points per contest. McIntosh also has a team-leading 104 assists, the fourth-best total by a freshman in school history trailing only Michael Thompson (128), Dave Sobolewski (121) and Patrick Baldwin (106).
Scouting Iowa
• The Hawkeyes suffered a 64-59 home loss to Minnesota on Thursday evening. Jarrod Uthoff led Iowa with 17 points while Peter Jok added 16.
• Aaron White paces Iowa with averages of 15.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Uthoff contributes 11.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest. Iowa ranks second in the Big Ten with an average of 37.0 rebounds per game.
• Fran McCaffery has an 89-72 record in five seasons as the head coach at Iowa and a 340-249 career record overall as a head coach.
