AVCA Selects Tashima for All-Region Honorable Mention

EVANSTON, Ill. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association has named Taylor Tashima to the All-North Regional team as an honorable mention selection, the organization announced Tuesday.
Tashima is one of three setters from the North Region to receive postseason recognition, joining Nebraska's Kelly Hunter and Minnesota's Samantha Seliger-Swenson.
She is one of 14 Big Ten players to be named to the All-North Region team, and Northwestern is represented as one of six conference schools on the list.
"We are proud of Taylor and her accomplishments," head coach Keylor Chan said. "She has worked incredibly hard, and this recognition is a reflection of the hours she has put forth for her team."
Tashima, a sophomore, led one of the most efficient Northwestern attacks ever. The Wildcats hit .214 during the 2015 season, finishing just outside the top five of hitting percentage in school history.
The success can be largely attributed to Tashima's 1,165 assists, which amounts to an average of 10.89 per set. She ranked fifth among all Big Ten players in that category. Tashima surpassed 50 assists in a match four times and did so twice in matches that went fewer than five sets.
Tashima proved to be an all-around player for the Wildcats in 2015, racking up 92 kills on 213 attempts for a .319 hitting percentage. She also had 232 digs, 53 blocks and 15 aces. Tashima notched seven double-doubles to lead the way for Northwestern.
AVCA All-America selections will be announced next week.
