NAPLES, Fla. – Jon Vegosen, a former Northwestern standout, has been appointed Chairman of the Board of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the organization announced Thursday.
Vegosen, a walk-on to the Northwestern squad, rose to become captain and was selected All-Big Ten in 1973. He has remained close to the game since his time as a Wildcat and previously served as the Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of the United States Tennis Association in 2011-12.
Some of Vegosen's other work includes Chairman of the U.S. Open, a four-year term on the Board of Directors of the International Tennis Federation and nine years on the Board of Directors of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
Vegosen has been a leading advocate for collegiate tennis. He co-founded the Preserving American College Tennis organization and has spoken and written op-eds in an attempt to preserve tennis at the collegiate varsity level.
Vegosen, who has both his undergraduate and law degrees from Northwestern, is a member of several Hall of Fames, including Northwestern, Intercollegiate Men, USTA Midwest Section and Chicago Tennis.
Vegosen and his wife, Shari, along with their two sons, Jared and Spencer, were presented with the prestigious Ralph W. Westcott Award in 2004, an honor that recognizes the USTA's Family of the Year.
