EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's student-athlete-led Chapter of Uplifting Athletes is holding a Touchdown Pledge Drive this week leading into its November 14 home game against Purdue at Ryan Field to fight ALS.
Northwestern has enjoyed a strong 2015 season so far, building a 7-2 overall record while earning rankings in all of the national polls. Defense has been the strength for NU, but the Wildcats will be looking for the offense to come through with a few touchdowns versus the Boilermakers to aid in their battle against another opponent: amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Uplifting Athletes is a national non-profit organization with 25 chapters that support the UA mission to make a positive and lasting impact on the rare disease community through the power of college football. Each touchdown the Wildcats score against Purdue will benefit the Northwestern Chapter and its efforts to raise awareness of and research funds for the rare disease ALS.
The 2015 Northwestern football team is asking its fans to support the student-athlete led Uplifting Athletes Chapter by making a pledge through the Wildcats online Touchdown Pledge Drive site at pledgeit.org/northwestern2015.
Northwestern joined Uplifting Athletes in 2011 and originally chose Niemann –Pick Type C as its rare disease to champion in honor of former Northwestern and Notre Dame head coach Ara Parseghian. The Wildcats changed their rare disease to ALS in 2015 and supported the cause with a Lift For Life this summer.
