Lorenzini, Vandixhorn Advance to Round of 16 at B1G Championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Northwestern freshmen Michael Lorenzini and Ben Vandixhorn went a combined 3-0 on Saturday to advance to the Round of 16 in the singles draw of the Big Ten Championships in Iowa City.
Vandixhorn, the championships No. 6 seed, had a first round bye before easily disposing of Wisconsin's Elliott Sprecher in the second, 6-1, 6-0. He will play the 11-seed Matt Galush of Penn State tomorrow morning for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Lorenzini, the 15 seed, had to win a pair of matches on Saturday to stay alive and did so in each in straight sets. He began the day with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Jeremy Lynn from Minnesota before moving on to beat Iowa's Tony Leto, 6-2, 6-3. He faces the No. 2 seed, Ben Lieb of Penn State, at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
Jason Seidman was also in action, going 1-1 on the day. He beat Nebraska's Andrew Dzulynsky 6-4, 7-6 (2) but fell in the next round to No. 8 seed Lubo Cuba of Michigan 6-3, 6-3.
