EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 4 Minnesota pays a visit to Welsh-Ryan Arena Wednesday night to face a Northwestern squad looking for its biggest win since knocking off then-No. 3 Penn State back on Oct. 10.
The Wildcats (13-12, 5-9) and Golden Gophers (21-3, 13-1) – the Big Ten frontrunners – are set to square off at 7 p.m.
The first 200 fans in attendance will receive a free Northwestern Volleyball headband.
Minnesota swept the Wildcats in three competitive sets in Minneapolis back on Sept. 30. The Gophers are riding a 12-match winning streak in the conference.
Northwestern has played well at home this season with a 5-4 record and wins over Penn State and Michigan State. Most recently, the Wildcats took No. 18 Illinois to the wire, dropping the fifth set 16-14 last Wednesday.
Chicago's Big Ten Team is right back at home again Sunday when it hosts No. 17 Purdue at 1 p.m.
Tonight's match will be part of the Big Ten's Volleyball Extravaganza. The conference's release on the subject is below:
On Wednesday, Nov. 11, BTN will debut a unique look at the country's premier volleyball conference. B1G Volleyball Extravaganza, beginning at 7 P.M. ET, features live look-ins at all 14 Big Ten women's volleyball teams playing in seven conference matches throughout the evening. The whip-around coverage will join the Purdue at Maryland, Indiana at Rutgers and No.18 Illinois at No. 12 Ohio State matches in progress at 7 P.M. ET, and continue to spotlight additional matches for three hours throughout the night. Full matches can also be streamed via the web, smartphones, tablets and connected devices on BTN Plus on BTN2Go, BTN's digital extension.
Each of the matches will be produced by BTN Student U, an initiative launched in 2009 that helps BTN produce over 500 events that wouldn't otherwise be televised. The nearly 500 students in the Student U program, all currently enrolled at a B1G institution, are responsible for producing and directing shows, calling games and operating the cameras and production/transmission equipment.
B1G Volleyball Extravaganza will be hosted by BTN's Mike Wolf, who will provide direction from the studio while helping viewers navigate the evening's slate. Split-screens and quad-view looks will be utilized to include all of the night's most compelling action. Fans can also tweet to @VolleyballOnBTN, with select tweets appearing on the air.
