Mertz, Robbins Granted Sixth Year Of Eligibility By NCAA

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior offensive lineman Shane Mertz and senior defensive lineman C.J. Robbins have both been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA. Mertz and Robbins will be eligible to play for the Wildcats during the 2016-17 academic year.

Mertz has appeared in 22 games for the Wildcats during his career, including six starts during the 2015 campaign. The Hazlet, N.J., native majoring in Economics is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a 2014 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.

Robbins has made 16 starts, including eight this season, in 30 career appearances for Northwestern and has registered 27 tackles, 1.5 TFL and 0.5 sacks. The Peru, Ill., native is majoring in Communications Studies and is a member of the Wildcats Leadership Council.

No. 21 Northwestern hosts the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday, Nov. 14, for Senior Day at Ryan Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Big Ten Network and WGN Radio AM-720.
