EVANSTON, Ill. – Three Northwestern men's tennis players were in action Saturday in the prequalifying draw of the All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Two of them – Alp Horoz and Mihir Kumar – won to advance to the second round of the draw tomorrow morning.

Horoz faced off against Purdue's Dominik Sochurek and won a close, back-and-forth three-set match. Horoz dropped the first 7-6 (6) but bounced back to win the second 7-5 and the third and final set, 6-3. He will play Wake Forest's Maksim Kan at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.

Kumar had an easier go of it in his first match, taking down Eddie Stoica of Wichita State in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Kumar will play Dima Zyhmantovich from Middle Tennessee State at 8 a.m.

The other Wildcat in action was Fedor Baev, who dropped a tough opening match to Duke's Vincent Lin. Baev fought back to win the second set after dropping the first but fell in the final frame, 6-3.

Sunday will be another day of prequalifying action before the qualifying draw begins Monday. Northwestern will have Strong Kirchheimer and Konrad Zieba set to play in that round. Sam Shropshire is scheduled to begin play in the main draw beginning Oct. 8.
