EVANSTON, Ill. — Senior goalkeeper Zak Allen has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
Allen led the Wildcats to a 1-0-1 record last week against No. 8 Notre Dame and Michigan State with a pair of stellar performances between the pipes. The Chicago native made 19 saves and allowed just one goal over 200 minutes of play between the two games.
He opened the week with a career-high 12-save performance in a 1-1 double-overtime draw against the eighth-ranked Fighting Irish before capping the week with seven saves and his first career Big Ten shutout in a 1-0 victory over Michigan State. The victory moved the Wildcats into a tie for third in the Big Ten standings with nine points.
The shutout was the second of Allen's season and third of his career.
Allen and the Wildcats will be back in action this evening when they take on Loyola at 7 p.m. Links to follow the contest are available at the top of the page.
