Northwestern Dominates Iowa on Senior Day, 4-0

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. — Four different Wildcats scored goals as No. 24 Northwestern (11-4-2, 5-3-1 Big Ten) trounced Iowa (7-8-1, 1-7-1 Big Ten), 4-0, on Senior Day on Sunday afternoon at Toyota Park.
The Wildcats dominated from beginning to end, outshooting the Hawkeyes 20-2.
For this senior class, it was truly a fairy tale ending. The Wildcats' four-goal win marked the most goals scored against a Big Ten opponent during these seniors' four-year tenure in Evanston.
"This senior group has been through so much," said head coach Michael Moynihan. "They went through some rough times early on in terms of seeing results and finishes in the Big Ten. When you look at this senior class, they have been the leaders and the ones who have stepped up to help facilitate steady growth and I can't say enough about them. Every single one of them has worked their tails off for this program and done everything they possibly could to help us move forward. To be able to recognize them today with a victory – I couldn't ask for anything better."
"It means a lot to look back at where we were as a program and where we are now," said senior co-captain Nandi Mehta. "I am so happy for the entire team and this senior class."
In the 42nd minute, junior Maria Grygleski scored her second goal of the year off of a set piece from 25 yards out to open scoring for the 'Cats. Although Northwestern owned time of possession for the majority of the half, Chicago's Big Ten Team was unable to tally another goal in the first 45 minutes.
The Wildcats entered the second half with even more momentum. Senior Niki Sebo added the second goal of the match for the 'Cats, making today's senior day festivities even sweeter. Sebo received a pass from junior Addie Steiner at the top of the box, and used a one-touch shot to find the back of the net. Sebo's fourth goal of the season put the 'Cats up 2-0 at the 58th minute mark.
The Wildcats did not slow down as they came out with the advantage in the middle of a goalmouth scramble after a corner kick in the 65th minute. Freshman Hannah Davison accepted the rebound off a Hawkeye defender and tapped in a third-chance shot to add another insurance goal.
The #B1GCats didn't stop there.
In the 72nd minute, Steiner tapped the ball to the upper near post off an assist from freshman Marisa Viggiano and the Wildcats held off Iowa for the 4-0 victory.
Northwestern closes out its regular-season slate with a pair of games against Illinois and Wisconsin. The 'Cats face the Illini on Oct. 24 before kicking off against the Badgers on Oct. 28. Game times are set for 6 p.m., and 7 p.m., respectively.
