Badgers' Hot Shooting Sinks Wildcats, 81-58

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern wasn't able to overcome an early red-hot shooting performance by No. 4/4 Wisconsin as the Wildcats fell 81-58 Sunday evening at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Tre Demps led Northwestern with a game-high 17 points, but the Badgers shot 12 of 25 from 3-point range which proved to be the difference. Bryant McIntosh contributed 13 points.
Wisconsin was hot from behind the arch to start the game, making five of their first six shots from distance in jumping out to a 22-9 advantage eight minutes into the contest.
The deficit was 11 when Sam Dekker connected on his fourth triple in as many attempts. Demps had the hot hand for the Wildcats on the other end, scoring 8 of the team's first 13 points.
Wisconsin's shooting would eventually cool off but the Wildcats never could get things going as it shot just 28.6 percent from the field over the opening 20 mintues of play.
The Badgers took a 43-21 lead at halftime as the guests shot 53.6 percent, including making 8 of 15 3-point attempts while the 'Cats failed to connect on any of their 7 tries from behind the arch. Demps paced Northwestern with 10 first-half points.
The Wildcats came out strong to begin the second half, out-scoring Wisconsin through the first 7 minutes of the stanza. However, a seven-point run by the Badgers forced NU to call a timeout.
Northwestern got its offense going in the second half as it was only out-scored by a single point. The Wildcats shot 16 for 33 from the field after the break (48.5 percent).
Dekker and Frank Kaminsky led Wisconsin with 16 points apiece.
The Wildcats return to action at 11 a.m. Central time Sunday, Jan. 11 when they travel to Michigan State. Big Ten Network is providing live television coverage.
