NORMAN, Okla. -- No. 28 Northwestern showed well in singles play to beat No. 58 Arkansas 4-2 and advance to the group's championship match at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend tournament. The `Cats will play No. 2 Oklahoma at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

To begin, Arkansas eased past NU in doubles competition to go up 1-0, capturing a 6-4 win at No. 1 and prevailing 6-2 at No. 3.

The `Cats soon bounced back in singles. Alp Horoz, who locked-up Northwestern's victory over Vanderbilt last week, rode the momentum to beat David Herrerias 6-2, 6-4 on the sixth court. No. 108 Strong Kirchheimer then continued his winning streak with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Johan den Toom at No. 3 to put NU ahead.

Not to be outdone, however, the Razorbacks answered at No. 2 where Jovan Parlic bested Logan Staggs 6-2, 6-4 to knot the score again.

Sam Shropshire then put the `Cats up for good in beating Gimmy Micolani 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1. Fedor Baev sealed it for Northwestern with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Santiago Munoz at No. 5.

Now 2-1 on the season, Northwestern plays Oklahoma in the flight's championship match. The Sooners beat No. 56 New Mexico 4-0 to force a re-match of 2014's final contest, which Oklahoma took 4-0 over the 'Cats. The winner earns a berth to the ITA National Indoor Championships in February, which will be hosted by the University of Illinois in Chicago.
