EVANSTON, Ill. -- Redshirt-freshman Grant Peikert was named to the 2015 All-Big Ten Freshman Team, as voted on by the conference's head coaches, the league office announced Tuesday.
Peikert appeared in 37 games, including 22 starts, and spent time at second base, shortstop and on the mound for Chicago's Big Ten Team. The Eau Claure, Wisconsin, native hit .246 during his freshman campaign and plated 20 runs on 30 hits, including three doubles and 13 RBI. Peikert made six appearances in relief and recorded one save this spring.
In addition, fifth-year senior Cody Stevens was honored as Northwestern's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient for 2015.
