EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head men's basketball coach Chris Collins will receive the extreme honor of having his high school jersey No. 20 retired by Glenbrook North High School this Friday evening.

Collins (class of 1992) is being honored alongside fellow GBN grad and current Duke assistant coach Jon Scheyer (class of 2006) who is also having his No. 23 jersey retired, the first jerseys to be so honored by Glenbrook North.

Friday's ceremony is set to take place at 7 p.m., prior to the 7:30 p.m. contest between Glenbrook North and Niles North.

"I'm proud of the basketball tradition that we were able to build at Glenbrook North," Collins said. "From the early 1990s to now, you probably would be hard-pressed to find another high school program in the area that has had more success. We have had a number of Division I players and Jon and I were McDonald's High School All-Americans and state players of the year. Plus, Jon's team won a state championship.

"The thing that I'm most proud of is helping to build a basketball program there. In basketball, you can never do anything alone. Basketball is a team game. I'm going to have a lot of teammates and coaches there and hopefully everybody can feel proud about that accomplishment. It will be a fun night and I'm very appreciative of the honor."

Collins enjoyed a standout career at GBN while playing for current Northwestern assistant coach Brian James. He was recognized as Illinois' Mr. Basketball as a senior in 1992 when he averaged 32.1 points per game while scoring 40 or more points in six games, including a 50-point performance against Deerfield. Collins shot 50 percent from the field, including 47 percent from 3-point range, and 84 percent from the free throw line while ranking second on his team with an average of 5.3 rebounds per game and first with 4.8 assists per contest.
