EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern opens up a five-game homestand Sunday as it hosts Mississippi Valley State at 5 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The contest tips off a stretch during which the Wildcats play four games over a nine-day span.

Northwestern hung with No. 23 Butler throughout their contest last Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse, but a late five-point run helped the Bulldogs post a 65-56 victory. Freshman Bryant McIntosh came off the bench for the first time this season to lead the Wildcats with 12 points and 5 assists.

The contest marked the first time that Northwestern had two players score in double figures off the bench since a contest against UCLA in Las Vegas Nov. 29 of last season. In addition to McIntosh's 12 points, fellow freshman Vic Law scored 10 vs. the Bulldogs. It was the first time coming off the bench this season for both players.

Law leads all Big Ten freshmen with an average of 5.9 rebounds per game, while McIntosh ranks second among all league newcomers with an average of 5.0 assists per contest.

Northwestern leads the all-time series with Mississippi Valley State 4-1, including winning all four games played in Evanston.

The teams met on Dec. 16 of last season at Welsh-Ryan Arena with the Wildcats posting an 86-64 victory. Drew Crawford led the way with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists while Tre Demps and Alex Olah added 18 points apiece.
