Ryan Humphrey Named Director of Player Development

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head men's basketball coach Chris Collins has announced the hire of Ryan Humphrey as the team's director of player development.
Humphrey replaces Chris Quinn who recently accepted a similar position with the NBA's Miami Heat.
"We're thrilled to be able to add someone with the pedigree of Ryan Humphrey to our staff," Collins said. "He was a tremendous player at the highest level of college basketball. He was a first-round draft choice in the NBA and played numerous seasons overseas as well. He'll be a great mentor for our young team as we continue to improve our program."
Humphrey was an all-conference performer at both Oklahoma and Notre Dame before being selected with the No. 19 overall pick in the first round of the 2002 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz. He was traded to the Orlando Magic on draft night. Humphrey played parts of three seasons in the NBA with the Magic and the Memphis Grizzlies.
He went on to play professionally in Europe for numerous teams through 2013, in addition to playing for the Tulsa 66ers in the NBA Development League during the 2008-09 season.
A native of Tulsa, Okla., Humphrey started his collegiate career at the University of Oklahoma where he played his first two seasons. In 1997-98, he was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team after averaging 9.2 points and a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game. The following season Humphrey was selected to the All-Big 12 third team, helping the Sooners reach the regional semifinal round of the NCAA tournament.
Humphrey sat out the following season after transferring to Notre Dame. As a redshirt junior in 2000-01, he averaged 14.1 points and 9.0 as the team's second-leading scorer and rebounder to pick up third-team All-Big East honors. The following year, Humphrey was a force, averaging a double-double with 18.9 points and 10.9 rebounds per contest to earn a first-team All-Big East selection and a second-team All-America pick by Basketball News.
