EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's men's tennis team opens its dual meet season this weekend, starting with a road trip to No. 46 Boise State on Friday. The match will begin at 2 p.m. Northwestern returns home on Sunday for a doubleheader, taking on William & Mary at noon and Chicago State at 7:30 p.m.
First-team All-Big Ten selection Raleigh Smith leads the Wildcats as the team's only senior. Freshman Sam Shropshire enters the season ranked No. 114 after an impressive run at the ITA All-American Championships in September.
Northwestern finished the 2012-13 season with 22 victories, a benchmark that set a new school record. The `Cats competed in the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row, beating Wake Forest in a thrilling first round contest before falling to third-seeded Georgia in the second round.
Boise State posted a 20-10 record last spring and also made the NCAA Tournament for the 16th time in school history. Entering this season, senior Andrew Bettles leads the Broncos ranked No. 54. Boise State opens their season Thursday against Montana State at home.
William & Mary wrapped the 2012-13 season with a 12-15 record. The Griffins reached the championship match in the CAA Championships last year, but ultimately fell to UNCW. William and Mary began its season on Tuesday with a doubleheader at home, where they defeated Norfolk State 5-2 and Campbell University 5-2.
The Chicago State Cougars finished last season 1-22. Guided by head coach Jack Barton, the team features one senior, five juniors, and one freshmen.
