Marisa Bast Earns Capital One Academic All-America Honor

Complete 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Softball Teams Release 
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern junior Marisa Bast (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) has been named a Capital One Academic All-America second-team selection, announced today (May 23) by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Bast, a learning and organizational change major who also is enrolled in the Undergraduate Leadership Program (ULP), is the sixth Wildcat in program history to win the award. She is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and also was named an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and Big Ten Distiguished Scholar in 2012.
Bast joins former Wildcat greats Karen Lemke (1985), NU Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Chinazo Opia (1989-90), Kim Metcalf (1990), NU Hall of Famer Garland Cooper (2006-07) and Robin Thompson (2011) as the 'Cats who have combined to earn eight total Academic All-America awards.
On the field, Bast was a 2012 NFCA All-American who began the 2013 campaign on USA Softball's Collegiate Player of the Year watch list. Bast led NU with 44 runs scored and 44 RBIs in 51 games played this season, finishing the year with 140 career RBIs to rank seventh and 30 career home runs to rank eighth in school history.
