EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern rides a four game winning streak with three run-rule victories into the conclusion of a 12-game homestand this weekend when NU hosts Iowa at Sharon J. Drysdale Field.
Game times are set for 4 p.m. CT Friday, 1 p.m. CT Saturday and noon CT Sunday. All three games will feature streaming audio broadcasts at NUsports.com courtesy of Wildcats All-Access. Saturday's game also will be broadcast by Northwestern student radio WNUR 89.3 FM.
NU swept Illinois last weekend before also defeating Notre Dame in a midweek contest Tuesday at The J. On Friday against the Illini, Amy Letourneau fired her second no-hitter in as many Fridays in an 8-0 (5) win before senior Meghan Lamberth nearly matched that feat with a career-best one-hit shutout during another 8-0 (5) result on Saturday. The Wildcats closed out the Illini on Sunday before recording their third run-rule of the week Tuesday courtesy of a nine-run fifth in an 11-3 (5) victory over Notre Dame.
Junior Mari Majam won her first-career Big Ten Player of the Week award this week after batting .778 (7-for-9) with five RBIs, four runs and a grand slam against Illinois. She continued her hot streak with a pair of hits and two more RBIs Tuesday against the Irish.
As a reminder, Northwestern softball is now a ticketed event at Sharon J. Drysdale Field in 2013. Adult tickets are $7 while seniors age 65 and older, faculty/staff, children 17 and under, and students from other Universities with a valid ID can purchase tickets for $4. As always, tailgating is encouraged at Sharon J. Drysdale Field.
Following Iowa's visit, Northwestern welcomes Northern Illinois to The J for a nonconference tilt at 4 p.m. CT Tuesday, April 16. That game marks the end of NU's lengthy three-week homestand before hitting the road to Penn State April 19-21.
TWO SPECIAL WEEKENDS COMING TO SHARON J. DRYSDALE FIELD
When Northwestern host Iowa at Sharon J. Drysdale Field April 12-14, the Wildcats will be wearing helmet stickers in honor of 2006 NU graduate Jamie Dotson Cruz's son, Dylan, and to raise awareness of Angelman syndrome, a neuro-genetic disorder characterized by severe developmental delay, speech difficulties, seizure disorders and more. People with AS are sometimes known as "angels", both because of the syndrome's name and because of their youthful, happy appearance.
Then, during the weekend of April 26-28 when Purdue is in town, Northwestern softball will join in the Donate Life Northwestern Campaign, which is aimed at increasing the number of individuals on the Illinois Organ/Tissue Donor Registry. Organ donation is an incredibly important cause close to the Drohan family; in 2004, NU head coach Kate Drohan donated a kidney to her dad, John.
