Postgame Quotes

Northwestern Head Coach Bill Carmody

Opening Statement:
"I liked the way we battled back and went ahead with different guys contributing. We just weren't able to make plays and their defense anticipated some plays and made some steals... We just turned it over a few times at the wrong times."

On the development of the team's younger players:
"Kale [Abrahamson] has a long way to good but it was good to see him get out there and get some rebounds tonight. We also saw some good things from Alex [Olah] and I'd like to see him be more aggressive on the low post. Tre [Demps] also is starting to feel a little more comfortable out there so I think that is a good start for us."

On playing better following tough losses:
"We hadn't been playing competitive basketball so it is certainly time. I think the effort is there and the guys are trying and we keep getting better which is good to see. We have a few days off here to prepare for Senior Night against Penn State who had a pretty big win last night."

On having consistently close games with Ohio State:
"I think the defense and our zone has caused them some trouble in terms of shooting...We made our foul shots tonight and made some threes, going 8 for 19 and if we can do that we can stay right in the game."

On the team's rebounding:
"I know they had 19 offensive rebounds the first time we played and they only had 10 today. We have certainly been stressing boxing guys out and making sure you get somebody when that ball goes up."

Ohio State Head Coach Thad Matta

On the team's lineup:
"It just makes us a little bit more athletic and Deshaun [Thomas] had a really good idea of what we were trying to do defensively. They were packing it in so we weren't getting a ton from that position on the offensive end. Then defensively they were playing, in essence, four guards out there and I just thought we matched really well."

On finishing the end of the game strong:
"Shannon Scott was tremendous tonight. He was reading things and tidying up. It felt like we knew where they were going. Sam [Thompson] had a couple of big blocks as well. That was probably the difference in the way we were able to turn them over 15 times."
