Kirchheimer into Quarterfinals of Big Ten Singles Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Freshman Strong Kirchheimer advanced to the singles quarterfinals on Saturday after two straight victories. He defeated Nebraska's Vasileios Stravropoulos 6-2, 6-4 in the second round, and went on to beat Brett Forman of Michigan State 6-3, 6-2 in the third. He will face fourth-seeded Shaun Bernstein from Michigan tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. EST.
In the second round, Fedor Baev topped Marc Collado Castells of Penn State 7-5, 6-4. He played a tough, three-set match in the third round against the number two seed, Indiana's Dimitrjie Tasic, but ultimately fell 6-1, 1-6, 6-2.
Junior Alberto Zanotti was knocked out in the second round by number one-seeded Vlad Stefan of Michigan 6-4, 6-2. In consolation play, he defaulted to Iowa's Andres Estenssoro.
In a consolation round, freshman Alp Horoz fell to Purdue's Aaron Dujovne 6-3, 6-3.
