Northwestern Ready to Play in Big Ten Singles Championships

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Northwestern men's tennis team travels to Purdue University to play in the Big Ten Singles Championships this weekend. Four Wildcats will compete in the tournament, which is the last fall contest before they begin dual matches in the winter.

Freshman Alp Horoz will begin Northwestern play in a qualifying round, facing Mac Roy from Michigan State. If he wins, he will earn a spot in the main draw and face Purdue's Aaron Dujovne.

In the first round of competition, junior Alberto Zanotti will take on Nebraska's Charlie Shin. Ninth seeded freshman Strong Kirchheimer faces Barrett Franks from Michigan, and sophomore Fedor Baev will square against Purdue's Diego Acosta.

Doubles play will see two Northwestern-Nebraska matches. Baev and Kirchheimer will go against Nebraska's Scott Elsass and Charlie Shin, and Horoz and Zanotti will face their teammates Tom Blackwell and Dusty Boyer.
