• Northwestern Football's 2013 Big Ten Conference season begins under the brightest of spotlights on Saturday when the Wildcats, ranked No. 16 in the Associated Press poll and No. 15 in the USA Today Coaches poll, host fourth-ranked Ohio State in front of a sold-out Homecoming crowd at Ryan Field. The matchup will kick off at 7 p.m. CT in Evanston and be carried live to a national TV audience on ABC, with legendary Northwestern alum Brent Musburger and former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit handling play-by-play and color analyst duties, respectively.

• Adding to the palpable buzz in Evanston surrounding Saturday's game will be the presence of two of the most popular shows in sports broadcasting live from Northwestern's campus next weekend. On Friday, ESPN's Mike and Mike in the Morning, hosted by Mike Golic and Northwestern alum Mike Greenberg, will broadcast from NU's scenic Deering Meadow on Sheridan Road from 5-9 a.m. Note that on-campus parking restrictions will be lifted for the entire weekend beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday. Additionally, local ESPN1000 programming including Carmen & Jurko and Waddle & Silvy will follow live from Evanston. Later in the evening, Greenberg will serve as the Grand Marshal for the Northwestern Homecoming Parade.

• "College Sports: What's Right, What's Wrong and What the Future Should Look Like," will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, in the McCormick Tribune Center Forum (1870 Campus Drive) on Northwestern University's Evanston campus. Guest panelists for the discussion will be J.A. Adande (BSJ92), Christine Brennan (BSJ80, MSJ81), LZ Granderson and Steve Weissman (BSJ01). ESPN Producer Willie Weinbaum (BSJ82, MSJ83) will moderate the conversation. Watch a live stream of the event here courtesy of this link from Medill. The lecture is free and open to the public, and will also be streamed live online. The discussion can also be followed on Twitter using the hashtag #MedillSports.

• Then on Saturday, Northwestern will welcome Chris Fowler, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and the rest of the crew of ESPN College GameDay for that morning's live three-hour telecast (beginning at 8 a.m.), with the set built steps from Lake Michigan on the grass field just south of Lakeside Field. See below for pertinent details related to the show's taping:

• Admission is free (no ticket required) and fans are encouraged to arrive as early as 6 a.m. to secure a prime spot for the show.

• Note that on-campus parking restrictions will be lifted for the entire weekend beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday, making it easy for Northwestern fans to visit the lakefront and show their purple pride on College GameDay.

• Fans are encouraged to demonstrate creativity in their sign-making, but those signs are subject to ESPN approval.

• Northwestern fan giveaways on site will include purple long-sleeved T-shirts and beanie hats. As always, all attendees are encouraged to:
