Stephanie Holthus Garners Preseason All-Big Ten Honors

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern junior Stephanie Holthus (Burlington, Ill./Central) has been named to the 2012 preseason All-Big Ten team as chosen by the conference's head coaches. This marks the second straight season that the outside hitter has received this recognition.
Holthus was named to the 2011 preseason All-Big Ten squad and followed that up by achieving All-Big Ten honors at season's end. The junior was also recognized as being AVCA All-Mideast Region honorable mention.
As a sophomore Holthus started all 31 matches for the Wildcats and posted eye-popping numbers along the way. The Burlington, Ill., native ranked fourth in the Big Ten with 475 kills, a number that marked the seventh-best single-season output in NU annals. She also set a new Northwestern single-season record with 1,453 attempts. Holthus finished second on the team with 330 digs and led the Wildcats with 15 double-double efforts.
Holthus was named the first Big Ten Player of the Week in 2011 and was tabbed as the most valuable player in three of NU's four nonconference tournaments last season. She was also a member of the All-Freshman team in 2010.
The 2012 preseason All-Big Ten team is comprised of 14 student-athletes and represents eight of the 12 Big Ten member institutions.
The Wildcats open the 2012 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Marquette Challenge. NU faces Bowling Green in its first match of the season and concludes the weekend with a tilt against the host Golden Eagles on Sunday, Aug. 26. The home schedule begins on Friday, Sept. 14 with the 31st edition of the Wildcat Classic. Season tickets are available at NUsports.com or by calling 888-GO-PURPLE (467-8775).
