EVANSTON, Ill. – Three members of the Northwestern women's soccer team were named to the 2012 Big Ten Players to Watch list. The trio includes forward Kate Allen (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne), midfielder Niki Sebo (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) and defender/midfielder Margo McGinty (Levittown, N.Y./St. Anthony's).
Returning for her junior season, Allen has led Northwestern in scoring the last two years with 11 goals. As a freshman, she scored six goals, including the game-winner in the Wildcats' 1-0 win over then-No. 3 UCLA.
During her first season at NU in 2011, Sebo played in all 19 matches, starting 17, in the midfield. She had a stretch of four-straight games where she played every single minute and logged a total of 1,302 minutes on the season.
McGinty made the Big Ten Players to Watch list as a freshman. Prior to joining the Wildcats, she played on the US U-18 National Team, US U-15 National Team and Region I ODP Team. She also was a member of the top-ranked club team in the country, the Albertson Fury '93, playing in the 2011 and 2009 Eastern New York State championships.
Northwestern officially kicks off the 2012 season Sunday on the road. The 'Cats take on Kansas at 1 p.m. CT in Lawrence, Kan.
