EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern head coach Michael Moynihan added another player to the 2012 recruiting class as Holliday Shuler (Great Falls, Va./Langley H.S.) will join the 'Cats in the fall.

"Holliday has played on an elite club team that enjoyed tremendous success, but in her initial college search she did not envision herself continuing with soccer so she could focus on her studies,” Moynihan said. “She had been accepted to MIT and was planning on attending, but then rethought her position on playing soccer in college. She realized she loved it too much and did not want to miss out on the opportunity to continue competing at a high level. We are excited she will be joining us at Northwestern, as she will bring added depth and experience to a relatively young team."

Shuler is a versatile player that Moynihan intends to play at forward, midfield or defense. She comes to Northwestern University from the Chantilly Burn soccer club, which won four Virginia State Cup Championships and also was a Bronze Medalist in the 2009 National Championships. She was invited to the 2010 National USL ODP Camp in Tampa, Fla., and also participated in the Super Y National Championships with NOVA FC.

She captained her Langley High School team and was a first team All-Liberty District honoree and MVP.  Shuler has excelled in the classroom as a National Merit Scholar and attended the Virginia Governor's School for the Gifted in Math, Science, & Technology. She also volunteers her time tutoring and presides over the Writing Center at Langley High School.

Shuler joins the six other newcomers who signed in February, including Rachel Bergman (West Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day School), Natalie Cikos (Hempstead, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), Jennifer Korn (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North), Suzanne Malherbe (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak), Margo McGinty (Levittown, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and Nandi Mehta (Lexington, Mass./Lexington).
