EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head coach Pat Goss today announced the signing of Scottish Boys Champion Josh Jamieson (St. Andrews, Scotland/High School of Dundee) to a National Letter of Intent. Jamieson will join Andrew Whalen to form the incoming Class of 2016 matriculating to Evanston in the fall of 2012.
"I am very excited to have Josh join our program this fall," Goss said. "Josh is both the type of student and the type of athlete that represents what makes Northwestern such a special place. He has an impressive international record and will make an immediate impact on our program. His family history with Evanston Golf Club and St. Andrews is amazing and made the fit with Northwestern even more perfect."
Jamieson comes from a rich golf tradition, growing up on the links courses at St. Andrews -- including the famed Old Course where he serves as a caddy. His great grandfather, Laurie Ayton, and great uncle, Alex Ayton, were descendants of William Ayton, Sr., one of the 11 founding members of St. Andrews. Both Laurie and Alex went on to spend time as Head Professional at Evanston Golf Club.
Jamieson won the 2011 Scottish Boys Stroke Play Championship and was selected to the Scotland Boys Team for the 2011 Boys Home Internationals. He has the ability to go low, establishing the course record at Crail Golf Club with a 62 in 2010. Jamieson also is a two-time British Prep Schools Champion.
