EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Charlie Rimkus (Tustin, Calif./Beckman) has been named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week following his performance in the Wildcats' victory at their own TYR Invitational over the weekend.
Rimkus was the high-point scorer at the three-day meet, winning five of his six events and taking third in the other to total 116 points, 17 better than his next closest competitor. Rimkus recorded a pair of NCAA 'B' qualification times in the 200 fly and 400 IM in helping NU win the four-team meet.
In addition to those events, Rimkus also captured the 500 free, 200 IM, 200 free and finished third in the 100 free.
The award is the first such honor of Rimkus' career and the first for Northwestern since Sean Mathews won the accolade following the 2009 TYR Invitational.
