UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Maya Hayes and Ali Schaefer scored two goals each as Penn State defeated Northwestern, 4-0, in Friday's Big Ten Conference match.
Northwestern had six shots in the match, two of which came from freshman midfielder Georgia Waddle (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest). Four other Wildcats had one shot each including freshman Sami Schrakamp (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista), senior Caroline Dagley (San Rafael, Calif./The Branson School), senior Sarah Sroka (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) and senior Emily Langston (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos). Penn State had the 18-6 advantage on shots and an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal.
“Tonight we beat ourselves,” Northwestern head coach Stephanie Foster said. “We have to regroup and refocus for another opportunity on Sunday. Penn State is a great team and they completely outmatched us tonight. We will put Northwestern Soccer on the field on Sunday.”
Northwestern continues Big Ten action Sunday when the Wildcats visit Columbus, Ohio, for an 11 a.m. matchup against the Buckeyes.
