Northwestern Announces Quartet of 2011 Team Captains

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald introduced his four team captains for the 2011 season during Meet the Team Night presented by AthletiCo Friday evening at Ryan Field. The group is comprised of four seniors: offensive lineman Al Netter (Rohnert Park, Calif./Cardinal Newman) and quarterback Dan Persa (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) on offense along with cornerback Jordan Mabin (Northfield Center, Ohio/Nordonia) and safety Brian Peters (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) on defense.
Captains were elected through a vote of their teammates. Both Netter and Persa also served as captains as juniors in 2010.
Northwestern kicks off the 2011 season one week from today (Saturday) at Boston College before returning to Evanston for its home opener vs. Eastern Illinois at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 10. That game has been selected as Evanston Day at Ryan Field and will be preceded by a pep rally at Independence Park on Central Street on Thursday (6 p.m.).
