2011-12 Northwestern Men's Basketball Nonconference Schedule
EVANSTON, Ill. - Seven home games and an appearance in the Charleston Classic highlight the 2011-12 Northwestern men's basketball nonconference schedule announced today (Aug. 24).
The Wildcats host Robert Morris (Ill.) in an exhibition contest Nov. 7 before the regular season gets underway Nov. 13 when NU squares off against Texas-Pan American.
Northwestern then ventures to Charleston, S.C., where it plays three games in four days, starting off with LSU on Nov. 17. The tournament continues the following day and concludes Nov. 20. ESPNU is televising the Wildcats' first game as well as five other tournament games.
NU returns to Welsh-Ryan Arena Nov. 25 as it squares off against Stony Brook before heading back out on the road, traveling to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech Nov. 29 as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
The Wildcats return to Evanston for a string of five straight games at home beginning with a Dec. 2 contest against Mississippi Valley State. The most highly anticipated contest of the nonconference home slate comes two days later as Northwestern challenges Baylor. The Bears have been ranked among the preseason top 15 teams in the nation by various media outlets.
After taking a respite for final exams, NU bounces back into action with a flurry as the team hosts three games over a four-day span. The busy stretch gets underway Dec. 15 with a game against Texas Southern, preceding contests with Central Connecticut and in-state foe Eastern Illinois Dec. 17 and 18, respectively.
The pre-Big Ten portion of the schedule concludes Dec. 22 as the Wildcats trek to Omaha, Neb., for a challenging game against Creighton.
Game times and television designations are slated to be announced in the near future, as is the Big Ten Conference schedule.
