KENOSHA, Wis. -- Northwestern held the first official practice of Camp Kenosha on Monday morning in what is now the 20th season the Wildcats have shifted their preseason training to the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Below are a series of notes from this morning's practice:
The trend of practicing under sunny skies continued Monday as Kenosha was graced with ideal conditions for training camp. After being forced to move its initial practice indoors last Monday, Northwestern has evaded rain, heat and humidity ever since.
Early in practice, head coach Pat Fitzgerald jumped into Northwestern's pass protection drill to serve as the center, providing a brief spell to NU's hard-working crew of student equipment workers.
The coaching staff used Monday morning's team sessions to focus on situational execution, including back the offense up to its own goal line with the goal of driving for a minimum of two first downs on the possessions.
Senior safety Brian Peters was able to put a stamp on a spirited series of seven-on-seven, stepping in front of a pass over the middle to set off a celebration for the defense.
Northwestern will conclude its first true day of double sessions Monday evening with a 4:45 p.m. CT practice.

They know. Oh, yeah. They most certainly know, and they admit it. They, unlike so many who inhabit their little slice of the universe, do not feign ignorance and claim they never listen to the radio or watch the TV or read papers or magazines or any of the countless web sites. These linebackers do all of that and so yes, darn straight, they know just what is being said about them.
"Understandably, we're the question mark. Nobody knows what we can do," says junior David Nwabuisi, who appears destined to replace Williams in the middle. "So understandably people are wondering what we're going to do. So we just take it, we're going to show people what we can do this year. We're gonna come out there and knock some heads and see what happens."
