EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Dan Persa was among 38 quarterbacks named to the 2011 Davey O'Brien watch list released Friday. The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually by the Davey O'Brien Foundation to the nation's top quarterback.
Persa adds to the list of accolades garnered before the start of his senior season. After being responsible for nearly 75 percent of NU's total offense through 10 games a year ago, Persa was also named to the 2011 Maxwell Award watch list -- an award presented annually to the nation's top performer -- and the 2011 Manning Award watch list -- an honor given to the top quarterback in the nation. The senior also received recognition from The Sporting News as the publication gave him the nod for the preseason's first-team All-Big Ten quarterback.
Sixteen semifinalists for The O'Brien will be announced on October 24 before the field will be narrowed to three finalists on November 21.
The O'Brien, the nation's oldest quarterback award, is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA). Along with recipients of 21 other awards, the winner of The O'Brien will be announced as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 8.
